Why I Chose Ascolta Farm: Birthing a Dream

In 2024, after the passing of my grandfather—the man who always believed in my ability to grow things—I made a promise to honor his memory by stepping fully into a dream we had often talked about: becoming a farmer.Shortly after, I applied to the first-ever cohort of a Farmer's Training Program in Northwest Louisiana, a program specifically designed for new and small-scale farmers. I was one of only 14 people accepted. The same week I received that acceptance letter, I also found out I was pregnant with my second child. Life has a way of layering blessings—so I began the journey of bringing two new lives into the world: my baby and Ascolta Farm. The name Ascolta means "to listen" in Italian. As I thought about what to call my garden-turned-farm, I kept coming back to the idea that growth—whether in soil, business, or relationships—requires deep listening. Listening to the land, to the needs of my community, and to myself. What sets Ascolta Farm apart is the intention behind every seed sown. I use sustainable, organic methods and focus on hand-harvested produce and flowers that are delivered fresh and local. Rather than trying to grow everything, I've chosen to specialize in specific crops and explore their many varieties. This allows me to stay true to my values—producing high-quality food in a way that's manageable, meaningful, and rooted in care.
